Purpose: The paper focuses on communication during initial audiology consultation sessions and written in twofold. First, it provides an overview of audiological literature on communication between patient, their significant others and audiologist. Second, it discusses patient-centered strategies for effective communication based on broader healthcare literature.

Conclusion: Audiologist-patient communication, especially at initial consultation sessions, are important in building long-term relationship and will have bearing towards patient hearing health outcomes. It is essential for Audiologists to adopt patient-centered communication strategies for to build trust and a positive therapeutic relationship.
